Because the Town paid part of the money to redo the field a number of years ago and because the Town turned to an old legal agreement made at the time of that contribution and basically threatened in a veiled not explicit way, that if MCPS didn't cooperate, the Town would raise objections that might have some legal foundation. That was enough, it seems, to make MCPS come back with a compromise offer to place only 1 portable. (Especially since they were exactly the same kind of legal objections that have tied up MCPS in court regarding the new middle school placement).

It seems, in light of a regular, every 5 years, technical modernization of the school that neither the Town nor the CCES parents knew about, that the school might have enough computers next year to do without the computer lab.

My question actually was, why do the parents who live in the Town of Chevy Chase and have children at Chevy Chase ES let the Town government tell MCPS what to do? Why not show up at the next Town meeting and yell? The Town government is supposed to be representing its residents.

Didn't MCPS even install receptacles with waste bags? You would typically install them in a place designated for dogs.

I think that PP means that computer labs typically have every thing set up, more outlets etc. It is not a PC vs laptop issue. I still think the laptops are equal if not better.

You have enough outlets in your class room to safely plug in 30 laptops, connect mice, turn them on log into the schools insanely slow secured network, have kids sign on with passwords, which also takes a while with the authentication protocols, and assuming no hardware failures or broken laptops you have time for a meaningful lesson in that one hour time period? Just how much time would that take out of an hour lesson? You don't sound very computer literate or know what you are talking about.

You don't sound very computer literate. The above all applies to a desktop computer. MCPS needs to move to tablets anyway. Lower cost, better form function, better educational applications and more mobility.

The last thing that kids in Chevy Chase need is more screen time and instruction on computers. Why do schools in affluent areas waste so much money on technology and get rid of PE and music instruction.

I just don't understand how a very small townshop can stop MCPS from installing two portables for three years?

How is one portable any better than two?

Actually, lots and lots of Town families send their children to public school from Rosemary Hills (K-2), CCES (3-6), Westland MS and all the way to BCC HS. Lots of families move into the Town specifically because they want them to go to public schools, and they like the mixture of strong public schools, suburban feel in terms of residential property, and proximity to metro and restaurants. I never understand why the Town isn't more supportive of the local public schools; it seems like they are cutting off their nose to spite their face in terms of property values.

I have always liked Chevy Chase better than say, the old area of Cleveland Park where almost no families send their kids to the local public school, Eaton Elementary. (Although residents of broader Cleveland Park include more modest town homes and apartments where parents live and do often send their kid to Eaton. )
