I'm being serious b/c my DH works for a local county law enforcement department and I'd love to quit or go part-time on my job but I ran the #'s and don't think we can do it. I make almost double than my DH does and if I quit he'd have to add health insurance so it would even be less take home pay.

My DH is law enforcement too. He takes a little on the side from busts and stuff. It's not right but it's all drug money anyway so he doesn't feel it's wrong. I'm not as comfortable with it so doesn't tell me all of it, but I think he takes mostly cash.

You husband is well compensated and will get a pension when virtually no one else does. Your expectations are too high for your lifestyle.

In moco, I've heard of a sizeable number of officers making low six figures...that's enough to be a sahm. What is your husband getting paid?

Anonymous wrote:My brother is on the fire department and his wife stays at home but its not because of his department pay. He and 3 other guys started a painting business that they all do on their off days. They have a rotating schedule and they each basically paint anywhere from 6-9 days a month. This pay has succeeded his department pay by 30 percent. Its not uncommon for police and fire to have side jobs.

+1. My sister-in-law is married to a firefighter. She works but worked part-time until her kids were in the later elementary school grades. He started a business as a wedding/portrait photographer, was successful enough to sell that business and start another one that has been even more successful. All on his days off.

Well, I doubt that person who decided to be a police officer will be happy SAH dad. It's just unrealistic expectation.

As for OP - did you married the man or his paycheck? Didn't you know that his salary won't be sufficient for you to be SAHM in this area?

Most police do they job because they like it, and feel like they are making a difference. The ones I know are.
