At least we are a two income family, so all worked out fine. And, I am still glad we moved. I will live with financial insecurtiy for many years to come, now, and would never have had the courage to move, if he lost the job earlier.
Similar thing happened to us in 2003. Just bought our "forever dream home" in our "dream neighborhood" - big jump in mortgage as well. DH was laid off 4 months later. I had just had my son. it sucked because we used a lot of our liquid funds to redo floors, paint, carpet etc. He was in a very specialized field with not too many local options. I went back to work after it became clear that it was going to take a while for him to find another job. 13 months later he got a great offer and we moved out of DC. Sold our home for $400K more than we had bought it for just one year before. We bought at the bottom and right before the market went nuts in DC.
OP it will be ok. Its hard to see that while you're in it but once you get another job you'll realize that it happened for a good reason. maybe your dream job is around the corner.
