I used to dislike them, and I took out one in my kitchen because it was so fugly. But last summer I was thrilled by the one in my bedroom. It's silent and kept me cook while I slept. It was so hot in my house the AC could not keep it cook upstairs. I'm going to replace the one in my bedroom with a nicer looking one though. Some are very sleek, modern and retro-looking. The one I have is a HD circa 1985, and it looks it. But for practicality, they are great.

My uncle who lived in a beautiful century-old house in Atlanta had them in every room but the dining room, where he had a chandelier. His house was lovely and perfect, and the ceiling fans were part of the antique aesthetic. Plus so nice and cool -- they circulate the air, so you don't have to turn the AC down and freeze. It's just a gentle, silent breeze that is refreshing in the summer.

My old house had one in the dining room, which I took out. That was too much, and very ugly too.
