Blackbird: A Childhood Lost and Found by Jennifer Lauck.
- somewhat along the same lines as The Glass Castle (i.e., dysfunctional childhood). I met her once at Olsson's years ago. Hard to match her with that childhood.
Liar's Club by Mary Karr
- someone else suggested Lit by her. I'll have to check that out.
Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp
- seconding this suggestion

Brain on Fire. True story so a NY Post journalist who is thought to be going mad but actually has an auto-immune disease that was attacking her brain. Fascinating!

The kids are alright.
It's not the movie but a story about siblings from a solid well off family, the dad dies in a car accident and the mom dies from cancer. Kids are split in teens. Not uplifting but along the same lines.
Tweak and Baby Boy are both good as PP mentioned. We need to talk about Kevin is fiction but reads as nonfiction and very good.

Good question.
I think they are the same thing.

These are a bit old school but you will love these autobiographies by the late actor, David Niven:
The Moon's a Balloon
Bring on the Empty Horses

If you like jazz and old school music, Quincy Jones' autobiography is a surprisingly entertaining read. It's interspersed with commentary from people from his life. An ex-wife or two have a few pages at the beginning of different chapters where they give their two cents.

"Tweak" and "Baby Boy" are memoirs written by a drug addicted son and his co-dependent father. SO interesting to read the chain of events from one perspective and then the other.

I loved "Life" by Keith Richards. Great reading, especially if you like rock 'n' roll.
