No, they're all fine. Some have their problems (attempted suicide is one of them), but one of them are unpleasant to be around.

When I was growing up, my older cousin was slightly too touchy-feely with me. Luckily perhaps someone notice, because I was never left with him on my own.

Niece herself seems like a great kid. It's SIL who can't stop talking about how special Niece is, as though no other kid ever read Harry Potter or got compliments from a teacher. Even that would be OK, if SIL weren't always trying to dig up dirt on other kids in the extended family. SIL has actually emailed me for dirt on a cousin's kids (I didn't respond).

Makes me feel sorry for Niece, because some family members hold SIL's behavior against Niece!

That felt good to write....

My husband's dad, stepmom, and brother are awesome. His mother, brother's wife, and 4 year old niece suck the life out of me. His mother is anxiety ridden and depressed. His brother's wife is gossipy and mean. The poor 4 year old is defiant, not potty-trained, and starved for stimulation. I am nice to her and am the only one who seems to get down on the floor and play with her so she sticks to me like glue. I don't dare discipline her so I am stuck trying to redirect her while my MIL wrings her hands in a corner and my SIL gives me gossip about her friends.

I spend hours cooking a nice, kid-friendly dinner for my extended family.

"Oh, I'm sorry, SnowFlake Johnnie doesn't eat chicken unless it is completely plain."

You expected me to make PLAIN chicken for your special snowflake? What?

Same poster here: forgot to mention the craziest thing here: S.F.J. is nearly 16!

My nephew has gone from a sweet little guy to a bratty 16 yr old. My sister in law still cuts his food up for him. It's insane. My nephew can do nothing on his own, nothing. He expects money put into his account weekly for whatever nonsense he wants. he expects you to drop whatever your doing to appease him immediately. The last family function I told my brother you all have done a great job at raising a permanent dependent. He couldn't find his way out of a paper bag.

SIL and her husband are extremely unpleasant, freeloading, borderline-personality-disorder types who care only about their hobbies and toys.

I used to feel sorry for their son, until he hit puberty and started acting out his (lack of) upbringing in deeply creepy ways, like getting a little *too* touchy with my teenaged DD the last time we were together.

Same, although I suspect his real problem is something way on the far side of the spectrum. He's a slow-simmering psycho-in-the-making. And he's only 12.

So your family is full of bigots. Nice.

I would use the term conservative.
