I have a Vista (bought when older kid, now 3.5, was born). I never used the bassinet with the stroller. I bought a carseat adapter (http://www.amazon.com/UPPAbaby-Car-Seat-Adapter-Chicco/dp/B001O0DEVM/) and used the Vista in place of a snap and go. When they grew out of the bucket seat I switched to the regular Vista seat.

Have the vista and used the bassinet a ton but, like the other posters, we walked all the time and barely used our car. We also used it as a bedside crib for the first three months. I'm sure you could make do without it but it was very nice to have.

Pp who said I used my vista bassinet a lot for my summer baby. I think this is a good point. If you will do a lot of walking straight out your front door, you will get a lot more use out of the bassinet than if you are driving and then using the stroller. So, I'd recommend it for a summer baby in the city but probably not in other situations.


I will second that the bassinet is worth it if you will be walking and not using the car much. I disagree with the summer qualification, my DC was born in December and we used the bassinet literally every day. I found it great b/c it had room to add a blanket to keep DC warm etc and I could still go out and about around the city. I loved having DC sleep in it while i was out at a coffee shop, at a museum, or shopping etc. We also used the bassinet when we traveled for DC to sleep in (overnight, naps etc). Its fits in the vista travel bag. That being said, if you will driving a lot and don't plan on traveling, this is definitely something you do not need. It was just a nice to have. We never got much use out of the car seat we needed to bring DC home, but had to buy that one

All you Cruz owners out there - how have those wheels fared on the city sidewalks, bumps and general urban terrain? We looked at the vista and cruz today and the slightly smaller wheels of the Cruz gave it a nice smaller shape (when folded) which appealed to us in our small house. But i wonder if we'll regret having the smaller tires when actually out on the mean city streets?

Anyone have any complaints about the cruz tires on city sidewalks?

We got the Cruz with the infant snug seat and no bassinet and it has worked out wonderfully. I loved the idea of the bassinet but it was just one more thing we didn't need around the apartment and I'd heard that many people don't use it more than once or twice. Just lay the regular seat as flat as it will go with the snug seat and you're good to go. Also, the snug seat is reversible - one side is wicking material to keep cool in summer (way better than a hot car seat that will bake your kid after a couple of blocks), the other fleece to keep warm in winter.

I'd also note that if your baby has reflux you'll want the ability to put him or her a little more upright right away, which would make the bassinet functionally useless. Our ped recommended specifically to angle up for stroller walks after meals.

NP here. So the Cruz is usable in the recline from the beginning? Can i get away with not buying the car seat adaptor? I have a 3 wk old who I mostly wear for now, and I also have a SnapnGo. However I'm eager to get the Cruz so older DC can use the board.

Yes, it will decline back with snugseat. Also, you can use the cruz as a snap and go too. Just buy the car seat adaptor For the type of car seat you have. Never need a snap and go if you were going to get the cruz. Plus the basket is bigger

Loved Hhe bassinet. Used it every time I went out and it kept her shielded from all the germs. Also a sanitary spot to change her diaper in public. She is almost 5 months old and cN still fit in it, she likes to see now though so I kind of prop her up so she can look around, then when she gets tired I lay her down. Still can change her diaper there so we never had to use a public changing table.

Uppababy has amazing customer service. Have you tried calling them directly? You might be able to get it directly from them even though they normally sell direct to consumer.

We used the bassinet a ton on our vista. But we lived in the city walked everywhere and never drove so we didn't use the car seat much.i liked being able to take off the bassinet and leave her sleeping. She never slept as well in the car seat, buy she also wasn't as used to it. We also used the bassinet at night, for travel etc. I think as long as you have one or the other you will be fine.

I'm so sorry for what your daughter is going through! And the difficulty finding a stroller/bassinet that will work for her. I can't speak to the Cruz bassinet, but the infant insert won't make the seat any flatter, unfortunately. I wanted to answer that one Q for you before you invested in one.

We used our bassinet a lot up until DD was about 6 months and she outgrew it. She liked to sleep that way, and as she got a bit older, it gave her room to move around a bit.

I never used bassinet. I think it may be useful if you live where you can walk to everything. For me I was always putting baby in car seat anyways so made sense to just pop car seat onto stroller frame

Heads up to anyone wanting a Cruz. It's on sale now, better discount for the colors vs the black jake, bc new 2015 version is coming out soon. I think I saw discounted price at albeebaby.com but prob elsewhere too. Same goes for some of uppa's other strollers too!

You don't need it - whether or not you want it depends on a few factors. We are using it as a sleeping spot for the first months - part of why we chose uppababy is that their bassinets are one of few safe for nighttime sleeping. Second factor is how you feel about infant car seats. The research that is critical of infants spending too much time in these seats was very convincing to me. If you're out and about running errands, sure, snap the car seat into an adapter and go. But for us, who do a lot of walking without a car, I would never keep my infant in a car seat for all that time. Just not great for them, in my opinion.
