+1 Somewhere on Lake Michigan is a no-brainer with your requirements. Check out Saugatuck if you don't want to drive all the way up to Traverse City and beyond (though it might be too quiet for the kids, if they are older/teens).

For a week though? I have been to Kohler and liked it, but I can't imagine it'll be much fun for kids...

! yes re: humidity. I am not saying St. Louis isn't awesome but I am still scarred by the memory of an August trip there to visit my extended stepfamily. 30 years ago.

Door County, Mac Island or a lake in upper Minnesota (where people from Wisconsin go to get away from it all)
Lake Geneva, Wisc.? but a long week might be too long, there is not much to do besides waterskiing.

This is not true. Texas is hotter and more humid than hell itself. St. Louis is just a close second.

I have lived in both states.

Texas is hotter, St. Louis wins hands down for humidity. You sweat when the temps are 70 and breezy there
