Rolling Stones Voodoo Lounge tour in 1994(?) in Giants Stadium. There was a huge rainstorm, it poured the entire time, and they still played a full show. I don't even really like the Rolling Stones but it was an outstanding concert.

Yes, that opening was amazing. The way it stretched out, and you heard the beginning of the intro, so you could anticipate what was coming.

Years later, on the Elevation tour, they had another amazing opening, in the opposite direction. No production at all. During the intermission, "Elevation" started playing on the PA, the crowd got excited, and then with no intro, or house lights going down, or anything, they just walked onstage and started playing the same song, full throttle. The crowd went bananas. It was one of the coolest openings ever.

k.d. lang, back when she was starting out, singing country music. I saw her open for Hank Williams Jr., if you can believe it.

She's still always amazing. But the country music was a lot more high energy, and offered way more opportunities for her to do that thing she does, bending a harmony way out of shape and then bringing it back around just ... in ... time.

They played a free show at Nationals Park a couple years ago and we were actually pretty impressed! I love it when a singer turns out to actually sing very well - and sometimes better - live. It's so hard to tell these days with Autotune.

The J. Geils Band in 1981. The arena was only half full but they played for every ounce of sweat in the joint. Four encores. Unbelievable energy.
