My low tolerance stems from their emotional immaturity. I avoid subjecting my family to that aside from an occaaional holiday when other family will be present.

DH's parents are twelve miles away. We see them once, twice a month at most. It's enough.

Mine are 10-15 minutes drive, and I see my mom 2x/week, my dad less so. They are retired but very active. OP- I think you are doing a good job. I only see my mom that frequently because SHE makes the effort and comes here.

My mom is 30 minutes away. i see her about 1 per month. It would be more, but she refuses to drive so I have to get her on weekends, which is really hard sometimes.

My mother and I weren't close growing up. I see her once every few months.
I was very close to my grandmother and saw her about once a week.

My father is alone and about 10-15 minutes away. I see him once a week or once every two weeks.
DH's parents are 15 minutes away and we see them maybe, on average, once a month. But that is mostly because my father wants to be involved with my kids where my DH's parents don't really care.
OP, you are right that your mother is in a unique situation, but I think what you are doing now is good. However, she probably REALLY looks forward to your visits.

My mom lives about a 15 - 20 minute walk from me, and is very healthy and active. DS, who is high school, and I usually see her about once a week, often for dinner on a weekend night. Occasionally, she'll do me a favor and take DS somewhere although this is much rarer than it was when he was younger and couldn't get places on his own. Today, for example, he had an allergy appointment and the Dr.'s office requires an adult, so she picked him up and took him.
She had hip replacement last year, and needed a lot of help, so I was over there 2 or 3 times a week for a while. I think that's reasonable.

1 time a month max. My mom and dad are always too busy.
It sucks since I, as the 2nd oldest of 7 children, did no extracurriculars but instead spent after school time on child care of much younger siblings. The wierd thing is that they help the younger siblings so much, but not me or my older sister. I think the family dynamic has been for so long that we are the helpers in the family that they can't wrap their hands around the concept that we might have needs too.

I answered two or three times a week but I realize that's a lot. I only live one neighborhood over and we are extremely close.
