Most children who get measles are just sick, occasionally enough to be hospitalized. However, there is a not insigificant risk of permanent damage such as deafness, impaired vision, and spasticity. Death is possible but permanent impairment is a greater risk.
I don't know what happens to adults who get measles. Typically, childhood illnesses are much more severe when they occur in adults.
The first victim in NOVA was a child who hospitalized several days. From the descriptor of places the second victim visited, there is a good chance he or she is an adult and, thus, may be sicker than the first victim was.
