No, my position is that a three year automatic renewal under the circumstances listed above (very limited opprotunity and circumstances under which you can cancel, etc) is completely unreasonable and absolutely unethical.
From my googling this type of contract is called an evergreen contract and is very controversial. These types of contracts are stuctured to rope consumers into perpetual contracts so that it is difficult if not impossible to end a contract with them. Some states like New York are either banning or eliminating them.
