Most fed women in their 20s only have enough sick leave for maybe 4 weeks of maternity leave.
On the other hand, 4 weeks of paid maternity leave is (unfortunately) more than many people get, myself included.

I'm the pp you quoted. We're TTC and so I've been saving my sick leave for 7 years. I also really need foot surgery which I'd need to be out for 3 weeks (at least) for so I just can't do it. I feel pretty stuck right now! Any sick leave I take feels like I'm taking away from my children.
