$51k. 10 days vacation, 8 days sick per year. It's accrued by paycheck, so you can't use it all at once (i.e. can't take a 10 day vacation in June because you only have 5 days accrued) until the end of the year and then it disappears/doesn't carry over. The worst.

Really? I use about 12 PTO days per calendar year. 5 weeks is a heckuva lot.

I'm the pp you quoted. We're TTC and so I've been saving my sick leave for 7 years. I also really need foot surgery which I'd need to be out for 3 weeks (at least) for so I just can't do it. I feel pretty stuck right now! Any sick leave I take feels like I'm taking away from my children.

You can request leave donations for the surgery, but I agree that short-term disability would be great. I had to use it twice in my last job.

The last pay period of the year you get 10 hours, so feds in this leave earning bracket get 20 days (rather than the 19.5 mentioned above). (Can you tell I'm also in this situation and a little obsessive about my leave balance!)

In 1 more year I hit 15 years of service and start getting 8 hours/pay period (26 days a year).

I work for a private employer. 18 days of PTO (all-inclusive, so this is vacation, sick leave etc), only 5 of which are allowed to be carried over, and then must be used by March 15 of the following year. Goes up by 5 days after 3 years. 8 federal holidays. Given that this is a huge company with billions (yes with a "b") of net income every year, I think this is pretty cheap. Health insurance is pretty crappy too.

We have a generous PTO schedule - 25 days the first year, 30 thereafter. That doesn't include the 10 holidays we also get.

I didn't mean to sound like I was saying that you had it good, just that the lack of paid maternity leave in this country sucks. I felt exactly the same about my maternity leave. All I could do was save my PTO. It meant that any time I took before they were born came directly out of my pocket in the form of unpaid leave after they were born. Which is where you're at - either unpaid or you don't take it. For us it was more important for me to take the time off so I had several months unpaid and we're still paying for it not (kids are 2 and 5).

Paid fairly well for my admin field. 10 days vacation, 11 days sick, plus all the federal holidays and the day after TG. We also usually close early the day before TG, Christmas Eve and NYE.
