I'm so obsessed with this name. Talk about it all the time. Amazing.

Can't you just say, "It's a beautiful name, but aren't you concerned that people will misspell it?"

Wait is Madelyn the "creative" spelling? Because that's not awful. I mean, it's definitely not the traditional spelling, but it's not awful.

tell her you love the name but that you knew someone that spelled a similar name like that with changes and that they ended up changing it to the traditional spelling because it caused so many issues and confusion. hey, we'll all vouch for you that this made up person exists.

I was tormented for the next two months trying to decide if I wanted to keep the name I adored or change because of someone else's comment. I'm glad I decided to keep the name, she is 3 and in daycare. We haven't met another child with the same name. I think a "common" name now is not the same as a common name in the 70's. Because while there is still a list of very popular names it is a lot longer and there are many more names in circulation. i.e having a #1 name in 1970 may have meant 15% of the population, not it would be like 3%

A common name sensibly spelled is a different thing than a common name kr8tiveleigh spelled.
