We even bought a second cake from her a few weeks later for a family only birthday for our DC. The red velvet she makes is my personal favorite. It BLOWS the grocery store cakes out of the water, but again you're going to have to pay a little more.

I agree with this! She's done quite a few shower cakes for my office.

Heidelberg or Wegmans. I think Whole Foods are gross.

After this year's round of preschool birthday parties, I'd say Wegman's Ultimate cakes are my favorite, closely followed by Costco (my pick for value, being about half the cost per serving of the Wegman's option). Safeway was mediocre and Harris Teeter was gross. Don't think we encountered any Giant cakes this time around.

For our kids parties we go for Sam's Club. We like it much better than the grocery stores and I'm not a fan of the Costco mousse. And, they do characters plus the price is right.

Well, truthfully you can buy anyone a "bull sheet" cake. Even one for yourself.

Costco is delicious, I have to admit. And I usually pass on store-bought sheet cakes.

Wegmans! I'm eating a slice right now. And Tea at the PG County location was so friendly and helpful with placing the order. It was a last minute request... I had the crazy idea that I would find time to make my little one's birthday cake right up until the day before the party.

Actually, several times I've taken edible cake toppers in to Whole Foods and asked them to put it on one of their sheet cakes. They've always done amazing jobs - not just adding the edible cake topper, but extra decorations, too. I once had them put on some plastic cake toppers, too (dinosaurs and a volcano) and they were happy to do that. They didn't charge any extra money for it.

If you're looking for a specific character, search "edible cake topper" and the character name in etsy.com.

I go to the Glover Park Whole Foods bakery (so I know they're familiar with this).

We bought a Safeway sheet cake for DD's birthday party and people raved about it. I was surprised, but numerous parents came over and asked what bakery we used because they wanted to use it, and the cake was totally demolished with nothing left at the end of the party. And I picked that cake up the day before on clearance! The decorator guy was fine, but we just wanted to add icing roses and "Happy Birthday" to it. The cake was like $20 or something on sale and fed 20 people. Best find of that party!

I also disagree. I got a Giant cake a few years ago for a work celebration and it was SO DISGUSTING. LIke, so nasty. Costco is much better.
