Slate is even worse than metal roof, that shit is terrible.

I love all the experts here. Asphalt shingles are the low end -- they don't look great, need to be replaced every 15-25 years, but they are cheap. Slate and metal may not appeal to everyone, but they are high end "lifetime" roofs. Slate does need yearly maintenance but metal does not. So funny with all the "I only want a small house for the environment" crew, that people are unable to see why some buyers might pay more for roofs that aren't "disposable" every decade or so.

+1 I would love a metal roof. I love the idea of a long-lasting roof.

That roof is very expensive. I really like it but I am not a fan of the red. In less it has structural issues, its completely done over and probably would not be long term any worse than any other house.

Living and learning - I actually thought it was a cheaper choice before. In any event, we visited the house and it is a gorgeous house but since we are not interested in pursuing it I will post the link here. We are not pursuing not because of the roof, but it is a very old house and while well maintained, I would be afraid of getting ourselves in such a house. I think it would require LOTS of love and MONEY to keep it up given its age.

The house even has a "carriage house!!" How cool is that?!!

Built: 1885 = money pit

The kitchen has a strange layout.

Actually, the newer asphalt shingles last 30-50 years and look a lot nicer than they used to.

I'm going to guess that the anti-metal or slate roof posters are not the people who embrace small, well-built homes.
