I fill a piggy bank over the course of a year when the coins make my purse too heavy. I then take them to my credit union (no fees).

Does anyone else also throw their one dollar bills away? I find them to be dirty and can't stand sullying my purse with them. They are great for lining our hamster cage.

I keep a stash at work for the vending machine, and in the car for parking meters. I occasionally use them to pay for things with exact change if I'm paying cash. If my wallet is too full, I dump them in DH's coin jar. He trades them in using coin star for amazon certificates.

This is me. I have a water cooler bottle in the garage and a jar in our mud room. Fill the jar, dump it in the water bottle, repeat. Right now I am about 5 years in and the water cooler bottle is about 70% full. Probably a new set of golf clubs there, I think.

DH and I throw ours in a canvas bag on the floor of our closet. Every couple of years we bring it to our banks. PNC across from the CVS in Dupont used to have a coin counter machine. I can't remember if there were fees. It's been a while since I made the coin run, so I don't know if it is still there.

But honestly, the best thing my parents did with their change was throw it into a giant container and forget about it. When I was a preteen I rolled it and cashed it all in. Best. Day. Ever.

For those of you taking the "throw them away" poster(s) seriously -- turn up the gain on your snark detectors.

The quarters go in the toll drawer in the car. The rest go in a coffee can, then to Coinstar. No fee if you take the amazon voucher route.

Keep some in the car for parking meters - some do still exist - and the odd purchase, like the 50 cent bananas I buy from the hot dog cart on the street by my office.

I, uh, spend my coins. It's almost as if they are real money.

I have a TD bank account. Their coin counter is a pretty cute activity to do with a kid. We look forward to having enough change to warrant going to the coin counter.

I save my coins and about twice a year, go to Giant's Coinstar machine. I select the option of converting the money into a Giant Grocery Card and typically look forward to having that day's shopping trip paid ( usually about $150)

I put my coins in a coinpurse and may for things with them. My husbands saves in a jar then goes to coinstar.
