I pretty much only read YA these days ( former MS English teacher). I loved Graceling, but was underwhelmed by Eleanor and Park. Joan Bauer's Stand Tall is older but one of my all time favorites. Also Thirteen Reasons Why.

I enjoy YA, mostly fantasy, but I think the YA label is often misplaced or misunderstood -- there is a lot of disturbing stuff going on YA books!

I love almost everything by Robin McKinley, especially Deerskin. Some of her newer stuff (Dragonhaven) is not as good, IMO.

NP here. I enjoyed this series, especially Fire. A lot of people (kids, I bet) didn't like it so much on goodreads, but I loved it. So beautiful and melancholy.

And to the PP who recommended rainbow Rowling's book, I downloaded and read the sample on my nook, but wasn't ready to embark on it. I did love her other book, Attachments, though. That was amazing--so light and funny.

To OP, have you read the Host? The movie previews were so bad, it's pathetic, but the the first half of the nook was amazing. Kind of dragged and fizzled at about page 400 or so.

I tried. I really did. I loved the first 3 Twilight books. A student have me The Host as an gift. Couldn't muddle through. Struggling with City of Ember though I loved the movie.
