I know someone who was a cab driver and worked a side job after getting his PhD from Harvard. He ended up doing something completely unrelated to his degrees. He wanted to be a professor.

This post surprises me because a few months ago I posted a question asking why none of these unemployed college graduates are working as nannies (or if they were), and everyone responded that the recent graduates think its better to do unpaid internships in their fields and keep out hope for something in their area of interest, or go back for more education, rather than work as a nanny. I knew great people who did it during the early '90's recession, and was looking for something similar, but couldn't find anyone like that. We pay about 60K/yr ....maybe the uber-rich paying over 100K a year (and, yes, I'm sure there are folks that do that) are snapping up all the college grads. But I do think its more likely that they are living rent-free in their old rooms and doing unpaid internships or spending their days sending out resumes and making LinkedIn pages. In short, I think this is a bogus trend story.

Watch for Obama to increase the guest worker program as an executive order. More young people will be out of work when another 100,000 guest workers are invited to take their jobs.

Indian firms have been lobbying US to provide more corporate subsidies and money for Indian companies. We should understand it is the intent of big firms to take jobs from the us taxpayer and send them to India.

As long as it is not your job everything is ok?

Last year, Nasscom hired influential lobbyist,public relation and law firms to plead the case of Indian firms with Congressmen.

Indian software-export giants like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS),Infosys and Wipro rely on visas to send employees overseas to service clients in the US,its biggest market. US contributes 65 per cent of the revenue of these firms.
The proposed legislation also requires firms to dilute their visa dependent workforce over the next few years,a move that will force Indian companies to hire local talent,thus affecting their revenues. If passed in its current form,the Bill could hurt the margins of the Indian IT sector.

I think the friend is making a calculation of what's she's getting paid based on what she's not paying in rent, travel, transportation, etc.

Even with that, I find it hard to believe she's pulling in $125k. Then, I wonder how much the Brangelina nannies are getting.

Not really. I know some insanely rich folks (think on the Forbes lists). None of them - not even those making $200+ million a year - pay their nanny $125k.
