So TJ is a feeder school to UVA lol

Look people here is the deal TJ doesn't do jack for you admissions wise

You are just as well off keeping your DS/DD in your normal school

So bottom line if your kid is really actually interested in STEM investigate TJ

otherwise stay at your normal school be guaranteed in the top 5-10% chances of getting into a selective college are almost identical

besides UVA is a safety for anyone who is actually smart :-p

TJ is not unique in having students with proud parents. It may be unique in having parents who repeatedly post Naviance admissions data on multiple threads.

Sounds like a Langley parent.

Still, it would be very interesting to see the list, or at least the number of graduates who have earned doctorates in their fields.

They already do.

Yeah, but those who are "making a name for themselves" in a big way their 30s are few and far between. I mean there really are not that many Mark Zuckerbergs out there--they are a tiny tiny fraction of the population of people who go to elite schools. I mean...if you are talking nobel laureates, most people don't even get a tenure track position until their early/mid 30s anyway. So the notion that one elite school that feeds into elite colleges would have a bunch of famous 30 somethings seems a little ridiculous to me.

True enough, but the top colleges that TJ students are going to are cranking out a lot of high achievers who make a name for themselves in their 30's, just not any from TJ quite yet. Heck the Junior class of 1990 Eleanor Roosevelt high school in PG County has more net worth than that entire list.

TJ places well every year. It's really remarkable that they haven't produced more notable alums. Has anyone looked into why there aren't more success stories!

This is ridiculous. The general public (even highly educated members) doesn't really know that many scientists or engineers (or other highly technical fields), but that doesn't mean they aren't doing groundbreaking research. How many nobel laureates in physics, chemistry, and medicine can your average, say, Big Law partner name? If you are not a biologist or chemist how many HHMI scientists can you name off the top of your head?

You don't have to be able to name them - schools that have notable alums usually made it known.

Decide for yourself, here is TJ's list:

It would be interesting if TJ had better acceptances to top colleges than private or boarding schools.
