It would be nice to have but it's absolutely not a deal breaker. We actually drive our cars on the open road so they manage to survive the odd raindrop, snowflake, or leaf falling on them. So do we.

We have a garage but it's tiny so we don't park in it. My only issue parking outdoors is the pollen. Yuck. And I worry about hail, but it hasn't been a problem yet. Rain/snow doesn't bother me personally.

When you're coming back from the groccery store in the pouring rain with lots of bags and a small child in tow, you thank God for a having a garage.

It's not a deal breaker, however the house would have to be perfect and have off street parking for me to give up a garage.

Um... close the door between the garage and the house.

No garage = deal breaker for that and other reasons. I'd rather have a 2-car or even 3, but 1 is an absolute minimum requirement.

I agree completely for the same reasons. Its been a deal breaker for us in the home search if there isn't space to build a double wide.

What a strange thing to say about CA. I've lived all over CA and I'd think the house were pretty odd if it didn't have a garage. Most do.

And if the comment were simply about the weather, some areas regularly get 110 degree temps in summer, and others more snow than DMV in the winter. It's not as homogeneous as depicted on tv.

Deal breaker for me
we need easily accessible storage - 5 bikes, all other outdoor stuff - kayaks, skies, sleds etc, plus some tools - DH loves DIY projects

My dream is to be in a close in area with all garages so that the streets aren't filled with parked cars.

Not a deal breaker, but if there is a garage, it must be two car. Not going to buy a fight between me and my spouse. We either get one that houses both vehicles or none at all. FWIW, feel the same about closets.

No garage and it doesn't bother me. I must have off street parking though. We live inside the beltway and it was one of the easy conpromises i made to have a super dhort commute. I may regret it once there's babies but we'll see. I grew up without one so its not a hard transition. We drive old cars so don't care about leaves, snow etc.

To add, now that I have a 2 car garage I really want a 3 car garage! If I ever move the next house will have a 3 car garage, 2 for the cars 1 for kids crap, bikes, work shop etc...

This. Our 2-car garage fits my car and strollers, trike, toys, lawn crap, etc. DH parks his car in an outdoor spot on the side of the garage. No garage would absolutely be a deal breaker.

Nope. Live in DC. Had a small detached garage at our first house, and we never used it. No garage for our current home, obviously don't miss it.
