We had it as trim in our old house and I love it, but I agree it isn't great for a basement. For the basement we went with a beige/light brown w/ bright white trim.

Go with Timid White! We have it in our basement and it looks great. Cameo White looks good too, but really goes on more yellow. That was in the family room in a previous home. It really popped against the green rug.

I'm an Acadia White fan, but it is a bit more formal to me. We have that in our foyer and upstairs hallway.

(DH calls our house "shades of beige.")

Agree with the others. We have it in our stairway and entry and I really don't like it. I wish I'd gone with a cool, modern chalky white.

FWIW, we didn't pick the color. Prior home owners renovated the basement before selling the house.

I want to do something with color, not so saturated that it's the "green family room" or the "blue basement," but I think it's a mistake to avoid color just because the room doesn't have a lot of natural light. Color actually warms up a room, even if it's from the "cool" side of the spectrum. I'm considering either a blue-ish gray, a warmer gray (love love our dining room color, which is BM Stone Harbor, beautiful with white trim and window treatments, doesn't look nearly as dark as you'd expect), or even an ice blue color. I've seen some really pretty pictures of the latter on Houzz that aren't so scary.

But honestly, you buy 1-2 gallons of BM Natura, decide you don't like the color, and as long as you did the labor, you're only out about $110. Certainly isn't the most expensive renovation mistake you can make.

I have linen white on most of my main floor but we also have heavy red and blue colors in carpets and furniture so a very neutral wall color works well. I wouldn't use it in the basement. We have Palm beach tan (I think that's what it called).

Ugh. I made the mistake of using BM Linen White in a hallway! Awful, dreary color, beigy/gray/whiteish. Rental white just about describes it. I went with it because my painter said it's a great color, and I had troulble picking a white for a dark hallway. My advice: find something else!
