When we first had them (2 kids) it was about $300k. Now that they are 6 and 8--it's around $450+k. I WAH which is a savior. They are in public school now--woo hoo--zero tuition!!

HHI is $165k and we have three - twins who are 3 and one 6 month old. Daycare is $3600 a month.

OP, your daycare costs seem low for two kids.

2 kids, almost 3 and 5 mos.
daycare 3700/mo.
HHI 200k.
house paid off, otherwise couldn't afford.

4 kids ages 6, 4, 2, 14 months

HHI 230-240K

Childcare= 3800/mos

2 kids, ages 3 and 6
$250k HHI

One kid in public school, the other $18k for daycare.

2 kids - 4 & 4
400K HHI

Pay for preschool + au pair = $45K/year.

omg, we are so poor. HHI just under $100k. We have two kids, 6 months and 3 years and spend $1200/month on daycare and preschool. We are fortunate that my in-laws really do love taking care of our baby during the day, so she doesn't have to go to day care. We pay them, but not nearly what a high quality infant daycare would cost.

I understand that I have no idea what other expenses they may have but I just don't see how its so hard .

Our daycare costs $20K a year. I can easily imagine that many people do not have an extra $20K in disposable income.
