It you test and still get a positive, you'll know it was a miscarriage. If it's negative it could have been a miscarriage but not necessarily. If you were only a few weeks pregnant your hcg could have gone down to zero already.

I had two of those, and both times it would have been timed perfectly with a conception/miscarriage scenario. (I was extremely regular and discovered that if I timed things on the right day, I could get pregnant on demand when not using some kind of contraceptive. Keeping it was another thing). I just was never the type to test early -- never took a test before 6 weeks, because I wanted to take one test and know for sure. Didn't want to "know" about the failures.

I had very heavy bleeding with clots like that when my thyroid was a bit out of whack. It can be from all kinds of things. If it is just one day I'd probably leave it but if it happens again, a trip to the doctor for a general check up might be good.

I had a m/c at 6 weeks and it wasn't different from my period so you never know. I've also had horrendous periods (intense cramping, vomiting, heavy bleeding) when there was no chance I was pregnant.

OP, even if the preg test was neg, it still could have been an early miscarriage. I had a chemical preg when TTC, and the home pg tests had gone to negative (after previously being faint positives) about a week before I began bleeding. The bleeding was like a very heavy period with clots, though in my case not any more pain/cramping, gas or diarrhea than a normal period (I typically have a lot of all those with periods)

I had that happen once about 2 months after I stopped taking a BCP. I had 2 normal cycles and then the 3rd one was like you describe OP. I went to my gyn and she did an ultrasound and some tests and found nothing out of the ordinary.

Sounds like an early miscarriage to me.

If it was negative, you can probably assume it was just an off cycle. I've had heavy periods with huge clots before when pregnancy wasn't a possibility. The following cycles were normal.

I'm 32. I hope it doesn't mean hormonal issues or early menopause. I'll ask the dr about fibroids next time I'm in.

I did take a pregnancy test yesterday (two days after the heavy bleeding) and it was negative.
