The notes have been amazing and I also have all of mine saved. I've also had parents make donations it charities for children in my name. A few relatively inexpensive ideas that I've received and loved (and put to use)....a small basil plant, a bottle of nice olive oil, a cool reusable bag....

Thanks for the response. I think I will write a note to the teachers who really made an impression on my child and not worry about the others. I teach too (at the college level) and every semester I get a couple of emails from students expressing their appreciation. Those are really meaningful but would not mean as much if I got 90!

I think the gifts usually end around elementary school - I could be wrong though. You could give each one a 5 dollar starbucks gift card - just enough to get a drink - a small token of appreciation, with a nice note.

I'm curious about what is expected in middle school. DS has seven teachers in sixth grade which could get expensive! In elementary school, I would give a Christmas gift and an end of year gift to his main teacher and chocolates for the Math teacher at Christmas time. This year we gave all seven teachers chocolates at Christmas. I'm not sure what to do at the end of the year. There is no "room parent" anymore either to coordinate something.

I am a teacher. I have received quite a few restaurant gift cards before, and they are much appreciated! If it's someplace I normally go, even better!
