Me too. Unfortunatey, after a few days, the drowsiness continues into the next day.

OP- have you tried changing the time of day you give him the Zyrtec. It might make a difference.

Zyrtec gave my son terrible twitching and other physical tics.

My five year old takes it daily and it does not affect his sleep or behavior. It works great for his seasonal allergies. I have bad seasonal allergies and all antihistamines, even the new ones that are not supposed to cross the blood-brain barrier, make me drowsy.

My 3.5 year old has been taking it for a few months. She's had it both in the morning and in the evening, and I can't tell any difference in her behavior. It really helps with her allergies.

I know right? I think my 89 year old grandma would laugh for 20 min straight if I told her my 6 month old is on allergy medicine. O now a days things are *different*.

Just because it isn't common doesn't mean it is impossible. I'm the pp whose DS started on Zyrtec at 10 months. He was ridiculously miserable when the pollen counts were moderate to high during the spring and fall: sneezing all the time, constant runny nose, red/itchy/watering eyes. Inside the house with closed windows and the A/C on - he was fine. Go outside for a few minutes or open the windows during the spring or fall - he would start sneezing and then it was downhill from there. So yes, it is possible for a child under 1 to have seasonal allergies.

Us too. One started at 9 months, as needed, one at 12 months. We give it in the morning and have no drowsiness issues. It does not work for our younger child, but Children's Claritin does.

Our ped allergist (not Economides) prescribed it for DS last year at 1. It made a huge difference for him.

Not on it daily, but we give it at night when they're really stuffy. But mine are 3 and 5, so that's different. If anything, they sleep better with it. Do you give it morning and night? Maybe try just night?
I know it's true that Benadryl, while normally making people sleepy, tends to have different effects on little ones -- sometimes drowsy, sometimes amped up. Maybe this is similar.

Nope. Darleen Mansoor at children's and she was fantastic. His eczema was so bad and so itchy that he wa miserable. The antihistamine really has helped and he's been so happy snd much more relaxed. He sleeps 10-12 hours at night but his naps became difficult so that was why I reached out about it.
