Anything by Diane Chamberlain. Her books are meatier than chick lit but not too heavy for vacation reading.

I also didn't like it that much - wouldn't say hate but not on my recommendation list.
NP here. I liked it a lot in the beginning, but I really got bored in the middle. I keep meaning to pick it up again and hope to plow through until it gets better.
NP here. I freaking loved it. Could not put it down and read it (i know, i know) at stop lights.
Also recommend The Rosey Project for the beach. Great fun.
