Personally, I like Cooke more than Reed. Was impressed at the Cooke open house with the IB curriculum, and the early-childhood teachers seemed better at Cooke. Reed's building is also truly one of the worst I've been in. I know it will eventually get renovated, but I wouldn't hold my breath for DCPS to come through.

With either school, though, I think people are not committed to staying past 1st grade or so--they have a long way to go. But I think you can get a great early childhood ed at both, just personally prefer Cooke.

BASIS. New but already hard to get in to.

I think West is the hidden gem. If you notice scores have gone up over the last few years. Ive met the principal and she seems to have a good vision for the school.

I had Thomson on my list too (but we got into our IB). I have always thought they are a secret gem-in-the-making.

Thank you for this. I put Thomson in my top 5 on my original list, and a couple of my friends thought I was crazy. Waitlisted and hoping to move up!

Yeah, I agree about West. And we live in the same neighborhood as you. I wish it were closer.

I really liked West (West Education Campus.) A bit of a drive from my area of Logan Circle, so we didn't apply, but I found it harmonious, with dedicated and excited teachers doing cool things. The principal was warm and energetic. If it were my public school down the block, I'd be psyched to have my daughter there.

Last year I walked in and enrolled same day. Gave up my seat for another "hot charter" this year they have a pretty good wait list and I know of at least two parents that didn't do the lottery.

Exciting things are happening there.
