We had the same choice two years ago and chose MV. Admittedly, both schools were in MtP then. But we love MV and haven't regretted it for a second. We're happily following it to its new location.

If you're unsure about the commute, ask the school about the school-organized buses. I know it seems tough for a three year old, but I believe that Lamont Park is one of the few pick up points.

Completely agree - this may be your last chance to get into MV (most spots open are at prek3) but you can always go to Bancroft any year K-5 to get the feed, if it remains under the changes. Keep in mind also with all the boundary madness: if you choose Bancroft and Bancroft gets zoned out of deal, there won't be a chance to go to MV. I'd probably stick around at MV at least until the boundary change dust has settled.

Like the PP we would love to go to MV but our waitlist number is a non-starter.

Thanks for that insight pp. As much as we say we are going to make the commute work, the more I'm inclined to decline.

Not wimps. We got into a hrcs 2 yrs ago and loved it and did the commute from mount pleasant. we engaged in carpooling and did all kind of planes trains and automobiles moves....it just wore on us and now we are planning on transferring. I'm from a big city and have no problem with travelling for school but the public transportation here is so piecemeal and patchwork that it just leaves huge gaps in convenience. traffic nightmares in this city are just soul crushing sometimes. i think we grossly underestimated the value of a decent commute for our kids and for our family.

Go for MV, then you still have Bancroft as a fall back, sounds like you have a great choice!

Bancroft will still be zoned for Deal under the new proposals.

Since MS is such a long way off for you, I would really not count on DCPS to come through. I think the zip code education model is on the way out in this city. I would bank on the charter school DCI option. Then you can also live wherever you want or need with no worries about a "good school zone". BTW we are a family choosing DCI over Deal for our second and third children

I think commute is incredibly important. I am PP who put MV #1, but has no shot there. For us commute is okay b/c it is on our way into work, but we did not apply to several other schools (Cap City, Lee, Inspired Teaching, Haynes, etc.) that are on others' lists because of commute. Before you accept, I would try the commute in the morning and evening with your child out a few times and see how it goes.
