Yes... that's the difference. Except comforters aren't always synthetic. Mine is cotton.

wait, so I still don't get the difference b/t a duvet vs comforter? I think what we have are down duvets (from Cuddledown) and we always cover them. The kids have synthetic (what I think are) comforters that we don't put covers on .......
