My DH needed to be circumcised in his late teens (foreskin simply too tight).
But that didn't mean he said our son should be circumcised at birth (we chose not too). So it couldn't have been too traumatic to have it done at an older age.

Doctors did all kinds of test, no infection, we tried medicine and even a small procedure at doctors office to open the hole but nothing worked. Like PP said a cream might help, but in our case the skin was so tight that my son could not pee. He would avoid going to the bathroom. We tried different things but it did not help. Circumcision was our last option.
It took 3 days off school and a week to heal and be back to normal. It was painful for first 2 days :o( even with all the painkillers.
You do realize it's painful for days regardless of age. Right? Newborns just process and express it differently. It's also much more disgusting to have an open wound covered in feces and urine.

Sorry just providing information first hand...
Don't apologize to the anti-circ lunatic.

You're a little sensitive. Circ is recommended for some conditions. If a tight foreskin doesn't respond to other treatment, it may need to be circ'd.
No one is saying that everyone needs to be circ'd. No one is saying that babies should be circ'd.
Some guys need it, though. it's a medical procedure. Get over it.

Not the same thing at all

You must not have a penis. You don't know what the hell you're talking about. You genital mutilators are the neanderthals.

Just like the anti-vacc crazies, the anti-circ crazies never mention the numerous disadvantages.
There are some pretty major disadvantages to circumcising, too. Cutting off half of the penile skin, including the most sensitive part of the penis comes to mind. Subjecting your child to an unnecessary surgery that he cannot consent to, as well. Risking infection, improper healing, a botched surgery that can cause pain and dysfunction...
