Nice bone structure. Thin ( sorry but true) and AMAZING sense of style. Long hair hides a multitude of sins. Only the truly spectacular can pull off super short hair.

I think it's really engrained in our culture. My parent's generation is in the late 80s or early 90s now. The guys all loved short hair. At the time they matured, the mark of sexiness was for a woman to cut off that long braid, and also to get a perm.
I remember my uncle saying he thought I was so pretty but if only I'd cut my hair short. ha ha to him, *long* hair was so "old lady."

I have very very short hair and get hit on all the time. It really depends on whether the style is appropriate for the woman. My hair is fierce! I've seen other ladies with super short gray pixies and their look is to die for. You have to have the face and clothes to match.

I prefer short hair but have grown my hair for locks of love multiple times. Once my hair passes my shoulders men hit on my all the time.

I've had both short and long hair over the years; it's currently short, which I feel like suits my personality better. It's curly, and SO easy to care for. I get a lot of compliments on my hair, so I'll take that as a good sign. It definitely makes people notice my face more than my hair (so I've been told), but I like that.
That said, I get FAR less attention from random men when my hair's short vs. long. In a way it's a good thing: fewer random creeps hitting on you--awesome! It was just so striking when I first cut my hair short, before I graduated from college. I don't think it send an "I've given up" vibe, but I do think it's a less traditional look for younger women in American society.

I've been sporting a short cut for about two years now and I'll tell you, I've never received so many compliments before. Not kidding when I say that I get compliments - from random strangers, literally - ever single day. It's definitely a flattering style for my face and physique, and I've got a nice, classy wardrobe which further complements my overall style. It's been a life-changer for this 42 YO mom of three young kids, I think it's allowed me to become "me" once more instead of pretty much what was me in my 30's: pregnant, baby, pregnant again, baby, pregnant (again?!), baby. It's helped me further my professional style and look too, which has further helped to accelerate me in my career path.
It's blown with all of this cold weather, though. I'm so ready for (consistent) warm weather!

Bob -- fine. Looks cute on many women.
Short hair as in "pixie" or shorn, like Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby -- you have to be beautiful to pull this off. When I see women out and about in hair this short I really wonder if they have a mirror.

My husband prefers long, but I don't really care. I really like Claire's hair style in House of Cards. She has great bone structure and can pull it off. I think if she had a round face with more fat, it would not look as good. I think women should get hair cuts/styles based on hair texture, thickness, and face structure. I am getting mine cut today, and will do a shoulder length bob...similar to the NY housewife....I can't remember her name, but she has a shorter bob, and it looks great!
