I have never found J. Gilbert's to be "lively" unless you're over 60. Their happy hour seems to have a lot of people in that age range.


Plus their food isn't very good.

Bellissimo Restaurant in Fairfax City. Super friendly without the snooty upscale.

It's called BJs. I've been for lunch on the weekends. It's a small chain, I think out of the southwest. Service is very friendly, beer is good. Food is fine. Much better than, say, Applebee's, but still a little generic. Overall, a good choice for Tyson's area but nothing unique.

There is a new brew pub near Nordstrom Rack on 7. I have not been, but there always seems to be a crowd. If anyone has been, I would love to hear your experience.
