My kids didn't complain about discomfort while using it, but if that's a concern the pp quoted linked to what might be a better option of that's a concern.

It really isn't that weird. Most kids have this happen younger, but a small percentage don't gain the control until later.
No celebration, but I would mark it with the purchase of a new mattress pad.
