There's a place in Old Town on King St. that makes great cakes. You can even watch the pastry chef decorating the cakes.

I don't see the hoopla about those cakes. They get sent to my office weekly and nobody really touches them.

OP, there are miriad recipes for microwave cake in a mug that will totally give you a cake fix in five minutes.

This is my favorite. I cut it in half and add two tablespoons of cocoa powder.

Tous Les Jours is fantastic and kid friendly and relaxing. They really care - the cakes are great and the owner even asked us for our opinion between two coffees.

A couple of Korean bakeries in Centreville worth a visit:

Asian cakes and pastry are lighter flavored, not as sugary sweet. It's good for a change of pace. Both are the type of place where you can buy something and relax for a while.

NP here. Yeah, what is it with WF cakes? Beautiful, but expensive and meh.

I'm home for the day, so I'd better not think too much about cake right now. But thank you PP's for giving me ideas on where I should go on Saturday. DH is coming back from a business trip and he likes cake too. Might be a good date.

Agree. What a terribly sad mindset to think wanting and indulging in cake every so often, is an automatic gateway to morbid obesity. PP must have some crippling control issues with food. Life is to enjoy all things (in good moderation).

WF cakes are awful. Not a big fan of most Firehook cakes, but they have a very light and moist cake with strawberries and cream.

Does Bradlee Shopping Center still have that amazing pastry shop?

I've been craving cake for the last two weeks as well. And I usually never crave it. I wonder if it has something to do with the weather???
