Air France sucks! But, just go with the direct flights and right price.

Yes, it really depends a lot on the aircraft. We flew a brand new 747-800 back from Frankfurt 2 years ago - it had only been in service about a month and was very nice (we were in business class). United's planes tend to be older 777s and 757s.

If you can get on a new Air France A-380, those are very nice and well-equipped.
