OP, have you looked into 20853 or 20851 zip codes?

The Rockville HS cluster is very nice. Out off 26 high schools in the county, Rockville is the second smallest, even though it is in the heart of the county. Because it is so small, it is very community oriented. Homes in these zip codes are also affordable.

The commute to SS would be an easy one for your DH and there are better schools (I taught in Silver Spring for 14 years and I would not send my own kids to school there mainly because of the consortium aka: "school choice")

Another option would be Olney (Sherwood schools) for us proximity to silver spring and schools.

Yeah diversity really sucks. The AA kid in my son's class whose dad is an IRS counsel and the Hispanic boy whose parents run a successful small business or the other one whose parents both work for Discovery really drag down the class.

We've had kids at Forest Knolls, Pine Crest, Takoma Park ES, & Piney Branch. Have had good experiences at all of them. Friends who have children at Sligo Creek, Oakland Terrace, Flora Mills, and TP Middle School & SS International have reported very positive things about them.

We love Silver Spring!

Do you mean, should they put school diversity on their children's backs, while they go off to work in an environment of their choosing? No, that is not a choice I would make for my children.

But the "Silver Spring is Lagos + Mexico City!" poster said to go as far west AND north as possible -- i.e., upcounty. So Gaithersburg, Germantown, Clarksburg, Damascus. Which I think is kind of funny, as an upcounty resident, because the "Silver Spring is Lagos + Mexico City!" poster probably would think the same of Gaithersburg, Germantown, and Clarksburg, if the PP ever came here. And Damascus, as we all know, is populated by illiterate hicks. (I'm being sarcastic.)

This, more than any other reason informed my choice to send my kid to silver spring schools. We're in for east silver spring, aka Mexico City apparently.

Highland View has great rep and Indian spring is a great neighborhood. Other close by desirable neighborhoods include Woodmoor, south four corners, and north four corners.

I am quoting a substitute who has been in many schools for the past few years. His favorite school in Silver Spring, including students, principal and teachers is hands down Highland View. He said he feels the positive energy from the moment he enters the building until it's time to leave. People are genuinely nice, children are mostly very well behaved.

I disagree PP. The poster is talking school quality. Either the quality of the school is high or low, regardless of race. If there is a high quality school that isn't, as you say, not the Poster before you, "white" or "affluent," I believe that school would be recognized as such.
