No one unlocks the door for a stranger. The few times we felt the need to talk to an unknown person who came to our door, my husband went out the back door and talked to them in the front yard.
I don't see much use in alarms. If I am not home, I don't care if someone steals everything, that is why I have insurance. If I am home, how likely is it that I can get to the panic button on the panel? And if i do, by the time the alarm company calls my home and mobile phones, dispatches the police and they arrive, whatever is happening will be all over.

that's why you set the alarm when you go to bed. If someone breaks in the alarm goes off and you don't have to push a panic button. The entering the door did it for you.
