You have a 2 week old baby. Your focus should be on:
--sleeping
--feeding baby
--sleeping
--eating and drinking water
--your 3 year old

OP, I would have hated this too BUT I made it very clear to mother and MIL that we don't want visitors right away (they were coming from out of town, so it was easier to manage).

This is clearly very important to you, so I think you shoud've communicated your preferences to the inlaws. Their behavior isn't really out-of-line, they just have different boundaries than you. Different families are very different around these issues, many people LOVE having families in waiting room (or even in delivery room!) during delivery...crazy to me, but true...

I think your feelings are valid. My mom called my dad and he came into the delivery room post partum. I had to lick him out when they got me out of bed. My dad doesn't need to see the bloody/poopy mess that was the towels under me. Plus, I was practically naked. Not appropriate.
