+1 on do it peacefully, and calm (practice getting everything together and keeping the cat in your lap a couple of times before doing it for real)

+1 on warming the fluid, it makes a difference

+1 lift the skin, before putting needle (very gentle)

I did it by myself, and the hardest part was the emotional part of putting the needle in, I could manage the logistics by myself (the cat never got aggressive or scratched)

Don't try to restrain the cat. This sounds weird, but cats hate to be held down or otherwise controlled. The needle takes a bit to get under the skin, but it doesn't seem to hurt all that much. If you have a lap cat, try doing it on your lap.

do it in the bathroom and hang the bag as high as you can. My cat didn't mind it.

We tried it a few times when our male cat had a UT, and he started to run away every time he saw us getting the equipment out. After 2x, my DH and I gave up. So now we feed him ( and the other 2 cats) wet food with water added in, and they all now get plenty of fluids in their diet. Whew!

My mom did it for years and I sometimes did it for her. She used to put the cat on dryer, because it was just the right height. It is easy to put the needle in.

We always hung the bag on a coat hanger (these usually a little hole to slide on the handle of the hanger) and then hung the hanger on a torchiere light or door. Our old cat was always totally calm about it.

It takes maybe 3-4 minutes for the presecribed amount to go in. (100 ccs I think)
