All white gold is coated in rhodium. Not everyone can afford solid platinum.

White gold rings have to be re-dipped every so often to keep their color.

A lot of new moms experience this. Most of the time it is due to the frequent handwashing, which increases when you have children, and any residual soap or water that gets caught in the ring. I do recommend the rhodium plating as well because there are additives added to gold and once that wears down, you're exposed. Besides, the ring always looks brand new after a rhodium dip.

A few months ago I developed a reaction to my rings and my watch. Ugh. Rings are both platinum, don't know what the watch is. Have had the rings for 13 years, watch for several. Because both happened at same time, I am wondering if there was a change in me. Anyone ever heard of hormones or something causing a change in how people react to metals?

Mine is white gold and I've had this problem too. Known allergy to nickel, as well.

My husband gets a rash on his finger when he tries to wear his ring, too. I didn't realize it was so common..

This worked for me too.

I had this problem with my diamond channel set ring. I wasn't getting it cleaned often enough - the bacteria can build up in those little crevices. Now I take it in every few months for a cleaning and it solved the problem.

Why would you buy a ring coated in rhodium?

I have had this problem since my first dd was born 14 years ago. I have found coating the inside if the ring with clear nail polish works well for a night or two.

Just happened to my SIL. She just got married and had picked out an engagement ring/wedding band set a long time ago that she was in love with. All of her close up hand pictures from her wedding had to be retouched by the photographer because she had a rash and sores (from scratching) all over her ring finger, pinky, and middle finger.

I'll let her know about the rhodium wearing off (she was engaged for 2 years before getting married) and see if that's the issue!
