How the hell do you know if a driver is barefoot?

I think they're not driving manual transmissions.

I only drive with my right foot, which is the recommended practice, and sometimes I do put my left foot up on the seat. Not on the dash, but sort of like "criss cross applesauce" but just with the one leg.

Same here.

Frankly, driving barefoot is a LOT safer than driving with stiletto heels which so many women do.

I prefer to drive barefoot or at least take my shoes off (if wearing socks) but obviously if I have lace-up shoes or boots on I will not take those off to drive unless on a long road trip.

My dad always hated this when I was in high school because he said if you get into a crash then the pedals (which are actually thin pieces of metal underneath all that rubber/plastic) will shear into your foot.

I also tend to do weird things with my left leg (I drive an automatic) on long road trips. Drove cross-country twice two summers ago and my left leg was often propped up on the door or dashboard. I can only do this when wearing shorts or yoga pants/sweatpants.

I almost always drive barefoot if I am wearing shoes that I can slip off. I feel much safer that way. My feet can grip the pedals and cannot slip.

OMG so glad someone else thought this too!

Leg up, comfort. Long trip - yup, feet on the dashboard. No shoes - almost always in the summer as my shoes come off too easily and it concerns me driving.
