At private K-8, Valentines party was cancelled for our child's grade (not sure about other grades). At preschool with vacation during Presidents Day week, our other child's party was Monday after the break.

My DC's teacher cancelled she's only in K.
I teach and I rescheduled and we had a ball!!

One day of instruction will quickly be forgotten but parties are great memories.

we have kids in 2 schools (Rosemary Hills and Chevy Chase) and both schools cancelled the Valentines day parties altogether. They got to exchange Valentines when they came back on Tuesday, and were allowed to have one of the snacks planned for the party at lunch. They said they couldn't give up any instructional time. Parent committees spent a lot of time planning and shopping and organizing the games, and spent money on supplies, which were not all returnable. I think it's a pity that the schools are so inflexible. Though to me the party itself isn't that important, I was surprised the schools lack the capacity be flexible. Sounds like other schools were! Seemed like the kids were all good sports about it though. (and at least they got their valentines) Maybe if things are so tight, next year they should just plan on a Valentine exchange and not plan a party at all.

Canceling it altogether is pretty crummy. Bad school, bad leadership IMHO.

Name the school!

OP, thanks to all, this was exactly what I suspected. Great school, out of touch principal.

On the 18th. A full scale party with V-Day games and treats and goody bags. SUPER involved parents.

HGC school.
