Oh, no, really? I spent some of my happiest evenings in there in my twenties.

That was a long time ago. Sigh.

I know, me too!

Another vote for Woomi Garden and Moby Dick's

Also Orient East for dim sum

Parkway Deli

There's also a Peruvian chicken rotisserie place on University, the name of which I'm blanking on...

I'd be interested in folks recommending Tex-Mex (aka Salvadoran) and a place for papusas

Can't believe I forgot to mention 8407! That's a really really good place.

Also agree about Cristina's.

El Golfo in Takoma Park is good and has interesting authentic Central American food.

Silver Spring: Olazzo, McGintys, and Paccis are all consistently good, though Paccis is pretty overrun with kids until about 7 or a bit later, so you may want to take that just into account if you're looking for a nice evening.

Fenton Cafe is very casual, but they have fantastic crepes and coffee.

Scion has good food & beer selection.

In Wheaton, Nicks Diner (cash only) for classic Greek diner experience. . Both Limericks and Royal Mile are terrible in their own ways. If you want to go a bit further, Black Market Bistro in Garrett Park is really great.

Also....
Wheaton: We visit these several times a year.
Woomi -Korean
Los Chorros - Mexican/El Salvadoran
Mi Lay Cay - Vietnamese
Kam Fang - Chinese
Full Kee -Chinese-Cantonese style

There are some new ones that popped up recently.

Is Jewel of India the place that is supposedly run by the same people from Udupi Palace (man I miss that place...)

Charm Thai
Bombay Indian (in White Oak)
Addis Ababba for Ethiopian

OP here. I was not wowed by Jackie's or Mi Rancho. But I like La Malinche and Olazzo! Will check out the others.

We are not fans of Jackie's either (and it's a shame, since we practically live around the corner from it). It seems to be trying too hard to be "high concept." You end up spending a lot of money and leaving hungry. I like La Malinche, but not the white sauce they seem to put on EVERYTHING! Charm Thai is really good.

We had a nice evening out at 8407 Kitchen Bar (DTSS, very close to the metro), but it's not kid-appropriate. The food was really good.

Lucy's Ethiopian (every time we are there, we are the only non-ethiopians eating there)

Paul Kee for Chinese

Metamoros for salvadoran/mexican

Mountain Jack''s for great steaks (and the wheel of salad)

Cristina's in Wheaton - great little Italian place. Venturing a little further out, Samantha's in SS/Takoma, one of the best Latin restaurants in the area. Corner Pub in Four Corners is a neighborhood classic that was re-opened recently and is excellent.

Or Gallery Place...

For some reason the shake shacks down here kind of suck. And I', not in love with the NY version, but the buns are simple giant-brand, the burgers are just meh.

Jewel of India is much better than the place in White Oak.
