We actually prefer to use an old small jar. Put it in the front corner of your dishwasher. When the dishwasher runs, the jar will fill up with water. When you empty the dishwasher, empty the jar. If the jar has water, the dishes are clean. If the jar is empty, the dishes are dirty. Works great and it's FREE.

But, another vote for the immersion blender.

Things I use all the time:
- silpat
- small whisk
- mini silicon tongs
- microwave covers
- small strainer/collander

Do you get the idea I like smaller sized objects? I often cook/prep for one or two and I love the smaller items that work well for smaller portions. They're easier to clean and don't fill the drainrack as much.
