For the skeptics on here, it would be worth your while to talk to Pride and actually visit the school.

I really encourage this cohort of IB families who are excited about and pitching hardy to try and refrain from getting snarky "didn't get my memo? Really". There IS a lot of cynicism right now based on a long track record of IB families not viewing Hardy as a possibility. People are starting to look and consider. Don't ruin it by snarking at sniping at people who express skepticism. Be positive and understanding. It will work better at attracting people.

But all other factors are not equal.

Why all the cynicism? We have three kids IB Key and are going Hardy. What Hardy has to offer over Deal is its size. We can afford to move to Deal (or where ever) but I feel very uncomfortable with the idea of a JUMBO middle school where kids become anonymous. You clearly haven't gotten the memo: Hardy is going to become more desirable than Deal because when all other factors are equal, the size, facility, and principal can't be beat.

How many families have a third kid when their oldest is 11? Not very many.

It will be interesting to see the actual numbers of IB attendees after private and lottery acceptances and follow on wait lists have sorted out. Right now love is in the air. If it is love though, odd it is so dependent on IB group think.

I would select Hardy. The reason why is because is a much smaller school. 400 kids versus 1200. How much can the principal from Deal get to know the kids and their parents? Also because I tour the school and attended the meeting when principal Pride came to Mann. She has a strong plan.

Also I heard that Deal didn't have such great reports years ago, it took a while for the principal to turn things around for the best.
That is what principal pride is doing at Hardy.

My 5th grader goes to Mann and we are committing to go to Hardy next year. I really liked what I saw and heard so far. There are 5 other families from Mann going to Hardy as well. I noticed someone is asking if the families going to Hardy are OOB and I like to answer for myself and for them; no we are not OOB families....I have spoken to families who's kids went to chatter schools last year and they are thinking to make the switch to Hardy. Some attended the open house we had and also are doing the shadow visits as well.

I'm sending my son to Hardy (from Hyde) and we're in Glover Park.

The families I refer to all live in Wesley Heights, so yes, they are IB, and they have been at Mann for years-1st or prior to 1st.

I don't hope that Eaton follows suit -Eaton is mostly OOB with grandfather privileges, and Hardy is a small school with the potential to be a neighborhood school-regardless of how the OOB students perform, I want my kid to go to a neighborhood school, and if OOB kids populate it, regardless of whether or not they are entering because they attended an OOB feared or not, it isn't really a neighborhood school then, is it?
