Are you a spanish speaking household? If not, and the only way your kid is going to get language immersion is through school, I would strongly consider an immersion program. We were short-sighted (keeping thinking every year year will be our last) and we went to our neighborhood school (which we love) rather than trying to get into an immersion program. I regret that. I agree with other posters that you obviously need to weigh other factors - the commute for example. Since you're IB for Ross, you're guaranteed a spot for K if you end up not liking a charter or DCPS immersion program.

Try the commute to MV's new location with your kid this week, then decide whether it's worth giving up your neighborhood school for. (Would not be worth it for me with an option like Ross.)

Both are great schools by all accounts. Keep in mind you should have some safety choices even IB for Ross. According to last year's lottery data 50% of the IB applicants for PS at Ross were wait listed. I am sure the numbers will be at least as bad this year.

Too bad Ross didn't fight for dual-language years ago, then the students could have fed into Oyster Adams, and all would be better for it. As it is I would choose Ross hands down, it's a great little school in a fantastic part of town.

Is there ANY chance of getting into Ross OOB for PK3? I mean, even a 1 in 500 chance? Or is it not even worth putting on the lottery application?
