Slight tangent, but that scene does not hold a candle to this one (note: NSFW!):

I'm a husband who does about 95% of the cooking. When I went to college, my university was about 80% male and you either had to have a lot of money (for a college student) or cook to date. Most of my friends learned to cook. From my group of college friends, all the men cook (well) and the women are at best okay infrequent cooks. Several of my friends have since gone on to volunteer or teach at L'Academie de Cuisine in Bethesda, work part-time for a catering company and attend various cooking schools around the country.

Lots of men cook. I'm more surprised by men who pretend they're too stupid to cook and women who fall for it.

Ok. OP can you ask your SIL why she made that comment (don't give her a leading question) and report back to us what she says?

I think it's that waffles in general create excited exclamations. I want to see if that's it, or if it's that she's seeing a man cooking…or if it's a man cooking waffles….or some other reason.

I'm curious and if she's your favorite SIL it would be easy for you to find out and fun for us.

I think you are missing it here. She obviously wants you. Women are so easy to read.

I've never met anyone IRL who was surprised to see a man cook. Hell, last I knew, most fine dining chefs are still men.

Maybe you were being oversensitive to one person's remark. Or maybe you just need to get out more.

I speak to people and I treat people the way I expect to be treated spoken to. Silly me, I expect people to give me the same respect in return.

If you thought this post was me being upset, your either reading too much into it, or you're just projecting.

Are you really a man? Your writing makes me think you are a woman.

I know my DH can cook, but he has a handful of items he makes. Outside of those, he is truly inventive when it comes to execution of making something. When he makes a grilled cheese for our son, he makes it in the toaster oven. That thought would never have occurred to me. But this is also the guy that stuck his sweater in the microwave, with a few drops of water on it to create steam, to get the hanger marks out of the shoulders.

Well, considering that I just watched my husband drop a box of dry pasta into a cold pot of water, I find men who cook to be the mythical unicorn.

OP does seem a bit dramatic and emotional especially, wait for it... for a guy.

Um I'm not ruffled or upset by it. I thought it was quite funny. But I am curious as to why it's a surprise when a guy cooks.

This is me favorite SIL, so I know she meant no offense.
Also I'm not gay. Straight me cook too :-)

But your other posts on other threads are a little over the top and emotional.
