Two weeks (only) PTO is evil.

Legal salaries are low compared to larger private firms. No matter what your title you will take a cut.

it also can vary by department. Legal and investor relations, you're making more. Marketing, not so much.

Directors at marriott typically get anywhere from 110 to 170, plus about a 20% bonus annually. Average around 130 base? It also depends what you were making before. Hospitality industry doesn't really pay well.

Bigger issue is that with the past two years, both hilton and Marriott switched to starting with only two weeks PTO. For the first 3 years. That is probably negotiable but a bigger deal breaker for most people at director level.

It's an awesome company with cool products and the discounted hotels are a nice perk but dependent on occupancy. Mormon jokes aside, it's great. And much better than Aol, and I worked there too and the atmosphere and products are embarrassing.

SIL works there and here is what I know:

Conservative but family friendly work environment (i.e., easy to achieve work / life balance). Pay scales are low compared to other big companies but very good benefits. Great opportunities to move up and across the company once you're in - lots of mobility. And you get discounts at Marriott hotels.

AOL is still around? Impressive that they can pay anyone, let alone fairly high salaries.

I can see low 200s for a high-level director around here, but my general impression based on my own & friends' experiences is <$200k for most director-level positions. But I guess there are a lot of variables.

I recently interviewed with AOL and we were taking "230 to 250". Just one example. Amazon pays that much for "Senior manager", although that's perhaps a bad example since they aren't here.

I wonder if they leave a little book of mormon on your desk when you arrive, like their hotels.

Pal worked there - female.

She said it was very conservative and dull.

She lasted a year and then got picked up by a startup (IT).

MUCH happier

Associate discount isn't bad, but free upgrades are awesome. My uncle works for them, gets us friends and family, and we almost always get upgraded to a suite (and other fun freebies), even in places like the Caribbean and Boston Copley.

The associate discounts only happens when there is inventory, earmarked for associate or friend's and family discounts. Good luck trying for Marriott Marquis in NY.
