Why should you have preference over people who have lived in the neighborhood for a while?

How do you know that you will actually find "THE" house in that particular neighborhood?

I think it's fine is you actually live where you have a short-term lease. I think it's wrong/illegal if you don't. Residency is where you actually live. It's crappy that you don't get IB preference if you fall into this situation, but tat doesn't mean that you can bend the rules to fit what you think you deserve. (Well, you can try, but it's still illegal.)

what school is this for?

I would be very careful about this. Many of the desirable WOTP PK schools take very few kids without siblings. You could plan this move and then wind up without a spot anyway.

Do you like the school your child is in now? Is it possible to stay for PK? It's a tough position to be in for PK but I know lots of families who don't get in for PK and are IB too. Not guaranteed for anyone. At least you'll have an IB spot in K.

Except that you are not actually living there, so you aren't a resident. To me it is the same as lying on the form.
